TUI River Cruises Unveils Largest-Ever Winter 2027 Program: New Ships, Solo Sailings, and Festive Itineraries
Travelers looking to experience Europe’s winter magic have a massive new reason to celebrate. TUI River Cruises has officially launched its winter 2027 program, marking the cruise line’s largest and most ambitious winter season to date.
Featuring 37 sailings scheduled between October 2027 and April 2028, the expanded program offers incredible flexibility with a mix of three-, four-, five-, and seven-night itineraries across Europe’s most iconic waterways. Bookings are set to open on July 2, 2026, with eye-catching introductory fares starting from just £869 per person for the popular “A Taste of Christmastime on the Rhine” itinerary.

Expanded Fleet: TUI Elara and TUI Luzia Join the Winter Lineup
The standout highlight of the winter 2027 season is the winter debut of TUI Elara, which is scheduled to enter service in March 2027. The addition of the Elara expands TUI’s dedicated Rhine fleet to three ships, significantly boosting capacity.
TUI Elara will spearhead the “An Enchanting Christmas Journey” itinerary, a festive voyage showcasing Belgium’s premier holiday markets. Cruisers can look forward to three brand-new port stops:
- Maastricht
- Liège
- Roermond (featuring a special docking on Christmas Day)
Meanwhile, the fleet expansion stretches down to the Iberian Peninsula. Following its summer 2027 launch, TUI Luzia will embark on its inaugural winter season on Portugal’s spectacular Douro River. Starting November 5, 2027, the ship will operate four “Douro Discovery” sailings, connecting Porto, Entre os Rios, Peso de Régua, Vega de Terrón, and Barca d’Alva.
Ringing in the New Year on the Danube & Expanded Flights
The Danube River will also remain a major hub of winter activity. Both TUI Maya and TUI Isla will continue their winter operations here, with a major seasonal highlight being the “New Year on the Eastern Danube” cruise. Departing December 30, 2027, aboard TUI Maya, guests will ring in the New Year while docked in the heart of Budapest.
To support this massive influx of winter travelers, TUI is scaling up its regional flight options. A new, third TUI Airways service from Birmingham to Düsseldorf will launch, directly complementing existing routes out of London Gatwick and Manchester. These flights are specifically timed to support regional access to highly sought-after Rhine itineraries like “Mistletoe & Rhine” and “A Christmastime on the Rhine.”
More Options and Dedicated Sailings for Solo Travelers
Recognizing the fast-growing segment of independent wanderers, TUI River Cruises is doubling down on its solo travel offerings for winter 2027 with two dedicated solo-only Rhine sailings:
- Rhine Châteaux & Gateaux (7 Nights): Sailing aboard TUI Elara starting October 31, 2027, this itinerary explores the southern portion of the Rhine with stops in Basel, Mannheim, and Koblenz.
- Northern Rhine Highlights (4 Nights): Operating aboard TUI Aria from November 17, 2027, this shorter getaway sweeps through Amsterdam, Cologne, and Mainz.
Meeting the High Demand for Winter European Cruises
According to Katy Berzins, Head of River Cruises at TUI River Cruises, this unprecedented expansion is a direct response to a massive shift in consumer trends. Travelers are increasingly seeking out authentic winter European experiences, from twinkling Christmas markets to crisp, crowd-free cultural tours.
With new state-of-the-art ships, curated solo departures, and better regional flight connectivity, TUI is positioning itself as the go-to provider for winter river cruising.
