JW Marriott Unveils Plans for The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point
JW Marriott and Aimbridge Hospitality have announced plans to transform the Dana Point resort property into The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point, a JW Marriott Resort.
The multi-million-dollar renovation will introduce updated design, expanded event spaces and enhanced resort amenities. As a result, the property aims to strengthen its position as a destination for leisure travel, meetings and celebrations in Southern California.
The resort will retain its coastal character while adding new experiences aligned with JW Marriott’s focus on hospitality, well-being and meaningful connections.
Expanded Resort Facilities
The transformation will introduce a new central resort pool and an expanded multi-acre event lawn. In addition, the property will add a new 6,000-square-foot ballroom and upgrade its existing meeting and event facilities.
The arrival experience will also receive a major redesign. Public areas will open toward ocean views, while the lobby will connect with dining spaces and an ocean-view deck.
Meanwhile, redesigned pre-function areas will create more flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for events and gatherings.
Ben Ly, General Manager of The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point, said the transformation represents a new chapter for the property after nearly four decades in Dana Point.
Coastal Design Reimagined
Global hospitality design firms HKS and ROAM will lead the redesign. Their concept will combine contemporary luxury with references to Dana Point’s coastal heritage.
The design draws inspiration from painted coastal cottages, the historic Lantern District and Southern California’s surf culture.
Furthermore, the entry drive and porte cochere will be redesigned to create a stronger sense of arrival. The resort will also feature layered interiors, curated artwork and maritime-inspired details.
The 371 guest rooms will receive soft updates that reflect the new design direction. The refreshed rooms will feature a coastal-inspired palette and elements influenced by the area’s seaside character.
New Dining and Guest Experiences
A new chef-driven signature restaurant will form part of the resort’s transformation. The central pool will also feature locally inspired food and beverage offerings.
At the same time, the property will retain its recently renovated family pool area, cabana rentals, Kids Club and Splash Zone. New locally inspired programs and outdoor activities will also encourage guests to explore the surrounding area.
The resort’s event spaces will receive particular attention. The expanded event lawn will move closer to the Richard Henry Dana Ballroom, allowing the property to host larger groups and multiple events.
Continuing Dana Point’s Coastal Legacy
The resort has served Dana Point for nearly 40 years and overlooks Dana Point Harbor. Its Victorian-era architecture and coastal setting remain central to its identity.
The transformation will take place in phases. It will also coincide with the ongoing restoration of Dana Point Harbor.
As the property transitions into The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point, a JW Marriott Resort, the project will introduce updated accommodations, dining, wellness and gathering spaces while maintaining its connection to the local community and coastal heritage.
