TUI River Cruises has expanded its European excursion programme for the Summer 2026 season, introducing ten new experiences across key river destinations. This expansion strengthens the brand’s offering while giving travellers greater flexibility to explore cultural and scenic highlights along the Danube and Rhine.

Notably, the programme now includes excursions in Kladovo, Serbia, marking the addition of a new port to the network. As a result, passengers can explore destinations such as the Iron Gates Gorge, one of Europe’s most striking natural landmarks.

New Ship and Enhanced Itinerary Options

At the same time, the launch of TUI Aria—the brand’s fourth river cruise ship—supports this expansion. The vessel will operate alongside TUI Isla, TUI Maya, and TUI Skyla, enabling a broader range of itineraries across European waterways.

Consequently, passengers will benefit from a more diverse excursion portfolio. These experiences combine traditional sightseeing with modern elements such as virtual reality, making journeys more immersive.

Highlights from the New Excursion Programme

Among the newly introduced excursions, several stand out for their unique appeal:

  • Iron Gates Technical & Scenic Tour (Kladovo):
Travellers visit the Đerdap hydropower plant while also exploring the dramatic Iron Gates Gorge. In addition, the itinerary includes a stop at the historic Trajan’s Bridge remains.
  • Kladovo Walking Tour:
This guided experience covers key landmarks, including the Djerdap Museum and the 16th-century Fetislam Fortress. Therefore, visitors gain both historical and cultural insights.
  • Cologne City Tour & TimeRide VR:
This hybrid tour blends a walking exploration of Cologne with a virtual reality experience. As a result, guests can engage with the city’s past in an interactive way.
  • Rhine Falls Experience (Basel):
Travellers can witness Europe’s largest waterfall up close. Moreover, optional boat rides and castle visits enhance the experience.

Broader Cultural and Culinary Experiences

Beyond these highlights, the expanded programme includes a variety of themed excursions across Europe. For instance, guests can enjoy:

  • Culinary walking tours in Ghent
  • Cheese and wine tastings in Amsterdam
  • Heritage visits to Kinderdijk’s UNESCO-listed windmills
  • City discovery tours in Mannheim and Linz

In addition, unique experiences such as retro vehicle tours in Vukovar provide alternative ways to explore regional culture.

Strengthening Travel Flexibility and Market Position

According to Katy Berzins, Head of River Cruise at TUI River Cruises, the expansion reflects growing demand for more personalized and diverse travel experiences. Furthermore, the inclusion of new destinations like Kladovo demonstrates the company’s commitment to evolving its itinerary offerings.

Importantly, this move aligns with broader industry trends, where river cruise operators are enhancing destination depth and experiential travel rather than simply expanding routes.

Strategic Growth in European River Cruising

Overall, the TUI River Cruises summer 2026 excursions programme represents a strategic step forward. By combining new destinations, upgraded ships, and immersive experiences, the company is positioning itself more competitively within the European river cruise market.
