United Waterways has announced a new partnership with JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs aimed at enhancing the onboard dining experience while supporting the development of emerging culinary talent across Europe’s river cruise network.
The collaboration brings together United Waterways’ fleet of more than 120 vessels with JRE’s international network of over 400 restaurants, creating opportunities for chefs and guests to explore authentic regional cuisine along major European river routes.
Supporting the next generation of chefs
Through the partnership, young culinary professionals working on United Waterways vessels will gain access to mentorship and collaboration opportunities with chefs from the JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs network.
According to Stefan Bloch, Chief Operating Officer of United Waterways, the initiative strengthens the company’s culinary identity while creating meaningful development opportunities for future chefs.
The program focuses on:
- Culinary talent development
- Knowledge sharing between chefs
- Enhancing the overall guest dining experience
Dishes inspired by Europe’s iconic rivers
As part of the initiative, JRE chefs will design new dishes inspired by regional cuisines along some of Europe’s most famous river cruise routes.
Featured rivers include:
- Elbe River
- Rhine River
- Mosel River
- Danube River
- Douro River
- Seine River
- Garonne River
These menus aim to reflect the local culture, ingredients, and culinary traditions of the destinations visited during river cruise itineraries.
Culinary guide connects guests to local restaurants
The partnership will also introduce a co-branded culinary guide available on select vessels operated by United Waterways.
This guide will provide passengers with curated recommendations for restaurants that are members of the JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs network located along cruise routes.
According to Nicolai P. Wiedmer, Vice President of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, the collaboration gives young chefs a unique platform to develop their craft while offering guests memorable gastronomic experiences both onboard and ashore.
Partnership extends to the Japanese cruise market
The collaboration will also reach the Japanese travel market through Mitsukoshi Isetan Nikko Travel, Ltd., a partner of United Waterways in promoting river cruises to Japanese travellers.
By combining culinary expertise with destination-focused dining, the United Waterways JRE culinary partnership aims to redefine gastronomic experiences on European river cruises while nurturing the next generation of culinary professionals.
