Airlines continue investing heavily in premium cabin upgrades as competition for long-haul travelers intensifies. Among the most important features for business class passengers is the lie-flat bed, especially on overnight international routes.
However, not all business class beds offer the same amount of sleeping space. A recent ranking from aviation publication Simple Flying highlighted the airlines currently offering the longest lie-flat beds in the industry.
Lufthansa Leads With Extra-Long Allegris Bed
Lufthansa secured the top position with its new Allegris business class suite.
The airline offers an optional 86-inch lie-flat bed, making it one of the longest business class sleeping spaces available today. That equals more than seven feet in length.
In addition, the Allegris cabin includes several premium comfort features. Passengers can adjust seat temperature through built-in heating and cooling systems. The suite also includes a 27-inch entertainment screen and Bluetooth connectivity.
Lufthansa currently operates the Allegris product on select routes between the United States and both Munich and Frankfurt. The airline also plans to expand availability across additional routes this summer.
Virgin Atlantic Takes Second Place
Virgin Atlantic ranked second with its Upper Class cabin on Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
The lie-flat bed measures 82 inches long, providing passengers with approximately six feet eight inches of sleeping space.
Although the A350 seats do not feature privacy doors like those on the airline’s newer A330neo aircraft, they include a “do not disturb” function designed to improve privacy during flights.
JetBlue Mint Continues Premium Expansion
JetBlue Airways claimed third place with its Mint business class product, which offers lie-flat beds measuring 80 inches.
The Mint cabin combines comfort with modern design features. Seats include adaptive foam cushions from Tuft & Needle and entertainment screens measuring up to 22 inches.
Meanwhile, JetBlue partners with popular New York City restaurants such as Charlie Bird and Pasquale Jones to provide onboard dining options.
The airline’s larger Mint Studio suites also allow travelers to host another passenger using an additional guest seat and table.
Qatar Airways QSuite Remains Popular
Qatar Airways followed closely with its well-known QSuite product measuring up to 79 inches.
The QSuite remains one of the most recognized premium cabins in global aviation because of its privacy doors and flexible seating layout.
Couples traveling together can convert the middle seats into a double bed, creating a more private long-haul experience.
Passengers also receive luxury amenities including sleepwear, slippers and amenity kits from The White Company and Diptyque.
Japan Airlines Completes the Top Five
Japan Airlines rounded out the top five rankings with business class lie-flat beds measuring 79 inches.
The airline continues strengthening its premium travel offerings as Asian and international carriers compete for high-value global travelers.
Airlines Focus on Premium Travel Comfort
Business class competition increasingly centers on passenger comfort, privacy and sleep quality rather than simply onboard service.
As a result, airlines continue redesigning premium cabins with larger suites, longer beds, improved entertainment systems and more personalized amenities.
For long-haul travelers, lie-flat bed length has become an important factor when choosing between competing international airlines.
