Carnival Cruise Line has announced that its upcoming Excel-class vessel, the Carnival Tropicale, will homeport in Galveston upon its delivery in 2028, further strengthening the port’s position as a major U.S. cruise hub.
From the outset, the Carnival Tropicale Galveston deployment highlights the company’s long-term commitment to Texas. The ship will join the Carnival Jubilee, which began operations from Galveston in 2024. As a result, Galveston will host two of the newest ships in Carnival’s fleet.
Expansion of Carnival’s Galveston Operations
Currently, the Port of Galveston serves as homeport for four Carnival vessels. However, with the addition of the Carnival Tropicale, the port’s capacity and strategic importance are set to increase significantly.
According to Christine Duffy, this move reflects both legacy and future growth. She emphasized that Texas has been central to Carnival’s expansion for over 25 years. Moreover, the new ship will enhance year-round cruise offerings from the region.
Modern Features and Passenger Capacity
The Carnival Tropicale Galveston ship will be powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), aligning with industry trends toward cleaner fuel solutions. In addition, the vessel will accommodate over 6,000 guests, making it one of the largest ships in the fleet.
Notably, the ship will introduce several new attractions:
- Sunsation Point, a newly designed onboard zone
- Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, a multi-level waterpark
- Expanded dining and entertainment concepts
Furthermore, design inspiration will be drawn from its sister ship, the Carnival Festivale, which is scheduled for delivery in April 2027.
