Princess Cruises and Holland America donate $175K to Alaska veterans facility

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line have pledged $175,000 to rebuild a veterans facility in Ketchikan, strengthening their long-standing connection to local communities.

Specifically, the donation will support the reconstruction of the historic Joseph T. Craig, Post 3, operated by the American Legion. The building, which had served the community for more than 85 years, was destroyed by arson in September 2023.

Funding breakdown for Alaska veterans facility rebuild

The total cruise line donation for the Alaska veterans facility includes:

  • $100,000 from the Princess Foundation
  • $75,000 from Holland America Line

In addition, Holland America’s contribution includes funds raised through its On Deck for a Cause program.

Moreover, both cruise brands confirmed they will continue supporting the project in the coming years, with further contributions expected in 2027.

Why the Alaska veterans facility matters

The Alaska veterans facility plays a vital role in the Ketchikan community. It supports:

  • Military veterans
  • Their families
  • Local residents

Furthermore, it serves as a place for connection, remembrance, and community service.

Gus Antorcha, president of Princess Cruises, emphasized the importance of the initiative. He stated that Ketchikan remains a key destination in the company’s Alaska operations, making the project especially meaningful.

Similarly, Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line, highlighted that the values of resilience and service align closely with the company’s mission.

Cruise lines strengthen community ties in Alaska

Overall, this cruise line donation to the Alaska veterans facility reflects a broader trend. Increasingly, cruise companies are investing in the communities they visit.

As a result, partnerships like this not only rebuild infrastructure but also strengthen long-term relationships between tourism operators and local residents.
