Intrepid Travel, a global leader in responsible tourism, has announced the launch of a new special-edition fundraising cycling trip in partnership with World Bicycle Relief. The eight-day Buffalo Ride Colombia will take place from 28 August to 4 September, offering travellers the opportunity to cycle Colombia’s Caribbean coast while directly supporting rural communities through access to life-changing bicycles.

Starting in Cartagena and finishing in Santa Marta, the Buffalo Ride Colombia itinerary blends adventure, cultural immersion and social impact. Highlights include cycling to Minca, a mountain town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, visiting a local wildlife sanctuary in the fishing village of Camarones, and riding alongside World Bicycle Relief staff to gain firsthand insight into the organisation’s work on the ground.

The Colombia trip follows the success of Intrepid’s inaugural fundraising ride in Kenya in 2025, which raised more than AUD $40,000 and connected 14 travellers with rural communities benefiting directly from the initiative. Due to strong demand, the 8-day Buffalo Ride Kenya, travelling from Nairobi through the Rift Valley to Kisumu, will return from 27 May to 4 June 2026.

As part of the experience, each participant commits to fundraising AUD $2,500 for World Bicycle Relief through The Intrepid Foundation, enough to provide 10 bicycles to people in rural communities. World Bicycle Relief, a long-standing partner of The Intrepid Foundation, works globally to improve access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities through durable, purpose-built bicycles.

After raising more than AUD $120,000 for World Bicycle Relief in the previous year, The Intrepid Foundation has now set its largest fundraising target to date, reinforcing its mission to create positive, measurable impact through travel.

“We deeply believe in the power of travel to drive meaningful, lasting change,” said Biheng Zhang, General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation. “These fundraising trips allow travellers to see the real impact they’re helping to create, while experiencing incredible destinations by bike.”

Beyond the fundraising trips, Intrepid Travel also supports World Bicycle Relief through its annual Buffalo Ride global event, now in its fourth year. Taking place on 3 May 2026, the event invites participants worldwide to ride, fundraise and help mobilise more women and girls in rural communities.

“Nearly one billion people living in rural communities remain isolated from essential services,” said Di Mason, Managing Director, World Bicycle Relief Australia. “Something as simple as a bicycle can be life-changing, and we’re proud to continue this partnership with The Intrepid Foundation.”

Designed specifically for challenging conditions, the Buffalo Bike is engineered to withstand rugged terrain and heavy loads. Over the past 20 years, World Bicycle Relief has distributed more than 868,000 bicycles, supporting over four million people worldwide.
