Holland America Line to Expand Fleet With Addition of Arcadia in 2029
Holland America Line will expand its fleet to 12 ships with the addition of Arcadia in 2029.
P&O Cruises will transfer the ship to Holland America Line. The move will add capacity for more than 2,000 guests while giving the cruise line greater flexibility across its operations.
The addition will also support Holland America Evolution, the company’s ongoing fleet and guest experience transformation program.
Arcadia to Support Growing Cruise Demand
Holland America Line said it continues to see strong demand for immersive travel experiences and mid-sized ships.
“Adding Arcadia allows us to welcome more guests while building on everything they already love about our brand,” said Beth Bodensteiner, President of Holland America Line.
Arcadia is a Vista Class ship, which Holland America says makes it a natural fit for its fleet. In addition, the ship will provide another platform for upgrades under the Holland America Evolution program.
Holland America Evolution Expands Across Fleet
Holland America Evolution is a multi-year investment focused on improving the guest experience across the fleet.
The program will introduce new restaurants, venues and staterooms. It will also bring selected features from the company’s Pinnacle Class ships to other vessels.
For example, upgrades already announced for Oosterdam and Zuiderdam include the Grand Dutch Café and a renovated Ocean Bar. The ships will also receive Bridgeview Suites and purpose-built Solo Verandah cabins.
Oosterdam is expected to debut its upgrades in fall 2027. Meanwhile, Zuiderdam will follow in April 2028.
Holland America has not yet confirmed which new venues and features will be added to Arcadia. The company expects to determine those details in the coming months.
Addition Provides Greater Deployment Flexibility
Bringing Arcadia into the fleet will also give Holland America more options when planning future itineraries.
The additional capacity could help the cruise line strengthen its presence in established destinations while also creating opportunities for new sailing options.
Moreover, the transfer provides a faster route to fleet growth while supporting Holland America’s broader modernization plans.
Bodensteiner said the additional capacity will give travelers more choices while supporting the company’s focus on the journey as well as the destination.
Further Fleet Expansion Under Consideration
The addition of Arcadia forms part of a wider fleet strategy rather than a standalone expansion.
Holland America said it continues to consider future fleet growth, including potential newbuild ships. At the same time, the company plans to continue investing in its existing vessels and guest experience.
With Arcadia joining in 2029, Holland America Line will gain additional capacity while continuing the phased modernization of its fleet.
