Seattle, United States — Port of Seattle has officially launched the 2026 Alaska cruise season, setting a new record with 330 vessel calls and 2.1 million passengers, the highest in the port’s history.

Season Begins With Strong Momentum

The season starts on April 17, 2026, with the first in-transit cruise arrival.
This year, more than one million यात्रers are expected to begin their Alaska journeys from Seattle, supporting local jobs, businesses, and regional tourism.

Sustainability Push Through Shore Power Expansion

Importantly, the port continues to strengthen its maritime decarbonization efforts.

  • 11 homeport ships will connect to shore power in 2026
  • New infrastructure at Pier 91 is under development and will be operational by 2027
  • 100 percent of homeport vessels are expected to plug into shore power by 2027

In 2025, about 87 percent of compatible ships used clean electricity supplied by Seattle City Light while docked.

New Cruise Brands Enter Seattle Market

Notably, the 2026 season marks the debut of two major cruise brands in Seattle’s Alaska market:

  • MSC Cruises
  • Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages’ ship, Brilliant Lady, will offer an adults-only cruising experience in the Pacific Northwest.

Economic and Regional Impact

According to port officials, the Alaska cruise season plays a critical role in:

  • Supporting thousands of jobs
  • Driving tourism revenue across Washington state
  • Strengthening long-standing economic ties with Alaska

Outlook

Overall, Seattle’s 2026 cruise season reflects strong post-pandemic recovery, growing demand for Alaska itineraries, and a clear shift toward sustainable port operations.

With new cruise lines entering the market and infrastructure upgrades underway, the port is positioning itself as a leading hub for environmentally responsible cruising.
