Expedia Group has announced a new strategic partnership with PredictHQ aimed at improving sports tourism demand forecasting through advanced predictive intelligence and real-world event data integration.

The collaboration makes Expedia Group the first deeply integrated online travel agency (OTA) partner within PredictHQ’s ecosystem. Through this partnership, PredictHQ’s verified event data and demand signals will be integrated directly into Partner Central, Expedia Group’s platform used by lodging partners to manage pricing, inventory and performance.

The move is designed to help hotels and accommodation providers better anticipate travel demand related to major sporting events and adjust their business strategies accordingly.

Traveler spending expected to exceed $8.1 billion

New forecasts from PredictHQ indicate that total traveler spending across North America’s host cities will exceed $8.1 billion between June and August 2026, covering accommodation, ground transportation and food and beverage.

This represents an increase of nearly $750 million compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing economic impact of sports tourism.

The demand surge is closely linked to international travel and fan movement ahead of major sporting events hosted across the region.

Host cities expected to see major economic boosts

Several cities across North America are projected to benefit significantly from sports-related tourism demand.

Among the cities expected to experience the strongest growth in traveler spending are:

  • Arlington, Texas – projected total traveler spend exceeding $562 million, representing a 135% year-over-year increase
  • Foxborough, Massachusetts – projected 161% increase in traveler spending
  • Kansas City, Missouri – projected 73.4% increase
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – projected 19.9% growth
  • Houston, Texas – projected 18.3% increase

These projections highlight the growing economic value of large-scale sporting events for host cities, particularly through tourism-driven spending.

International fan travel driving demand

Travel demand from international markets is expected to play a major role in the surge.

Data from Expedia Group shows significant increases in inbound demand from global fan bases:

  • Travel demand from Japan to Dallas is up 1,820% above typical weekly levels
  • United Kingdom to Dallas demand has increased 1,530%
  • Brazil to Philadelphia and Germany to Houston are recording four-digit growth rates
  • Travel demand from Australia to Seattle has increased 400%

These patterns illustrate how global sporting events are creating powerful international travel corridors, driving tourism activity far beyond domestic markets.

Accommodation spending expected to nearly double

Accommodation spending is expected to see some of the most dramatic growth during the tournament period.

Forecasts show accommodation spending across host cities rising from $2.6 billion last year to $4.8 billion in 2026, representing an 86% increase year over year.

Cities expected to see the biggest accommodation spending increases include:

  • Arlington, Texas – projected 369% increase
  • Foxborough, Massachusetts – projected 310% increase
  • Santa Clara, California – projected 159% increase

This surge is largely driven by fans booking extended stays before and after match days.

New predictive tools for lodging partners

According to Campbell Brown, CEO of PredictHQ, traditional forecasting models often struggle to identify demand spikes linked to real-world events.

By combining PredictHQ’s event intelligence with Expedia Group’s traveler data, lodging providers will be able to detect demand earlier and adjust their pricing, marketing and inventory strategies accordingly.

Susan Spinney, Senior Vice President of Hotel Market Partnerships at Expedia Group, said the integration will allow partners to move from insights to action more quickly by using tools within Partner Central, including targeted marketing and advertising options.

Growing importance of sports tourism analytics

The partnership highlights the increasing importance of data-driven forecasting in the sports tourism sector, where demand often fluctuates rapidly based on event schedules, team participation and international fan travel.

By integrating predictive intelligence directly into operational platforms, travel companies aim to help hotels and tourism providers capture emerging demand, maximize occupancy and drive revenue growth during major global events
