Issy-les-Moulineaux, France– Transdev Group, a global leader in public transport and shared mobility, is significantly expanding its footprint in the Netherlands with the award of two major transport contracts and the launch of two large urban networks, collectively valued at more than €4 billion over their full contract duration.
Through its subsidiary Transdev Nederland, the group is strengthening its position as a key mobility partner for Dutch public authorities, supporting the country’s transition towards zero-emission, inclusive and people-centred transport solutions.
Arnhem–Nijmegen–Foodvalley Concession Awarded
Transdev has been selected to operate bus services in the Arnhem–Nijmegen–Foodvalley concession in the Province of Gelderland for a 10-year period from June 2026 to June 2036. Awarded in July 2025, the contract merges two existing concessions – Arnhem–Nijmegen and Veluwe Zuid – both already operated by Transdev.
The concession, valued at over €1.5 billion, will be delivered under the province’s RRReis brand and supported by a new fleet of more than 300 zero-emission electric buses, supplied by manufacturers including Yutong, MAN and Solaris, alongside 50 electric trolley buses.
Valys On-Demand Mobility Contract
Transdev subsidiary Connexxion Taxi Services has also been provisionally selected to operate the Valys service on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Valys provides nationwide, on-demand transport for people with reduced mobility, supporting social, recreational and sports-related travel across the Netherlands.
The contract represents a value of nearly €0.5 billion over an initial six-year term starting in October 2026, with options for up to two additional two-year extensions. The award remains subject to appeal.
Two Major Urban Networks Launched
Effective 14 December 2025, Transdev successfully launched operations on two major urban networks: Utrecht Binnen and HWGO.
Utrecht Binnen (U-OV Bus & Tram)
Awarded in June 2024, the Utrecht Binnen concession covers bus and tram services in and around Utrecht city centre for 10 years, with a total value of approximately €1.7 billion. Operating under the U-OV brand, the network includes:
- 50 bus lines, carrying more than 30 million passengers annually
- Three tram lines spanning 18.3 km, transporting around 10 million passengers per year
- A workforce of around 1,000 staff, including drivers, technicians and operational teams
As part of the contract, Transdev is replacing the entire bus fleet with zero-emission vehicles, including 228 new electric buses from Solaris, Yutong, Volvo and VDL, while reusing 69 existing electric buses.
HWGO Network (South Holland)
In the Hoeksche Waard–Goeree-Overflakkee (HWGO) region of South Holland, Transdev has begun a renewed 13-year contract running until 2038, valued at close to €0.5 billion. The network serves approximately 4 million passengers annually and includes a planned 20% increase in services by 2028.
The fleet transition will result in a fully zero-emission operation, featuring 67 new battery-electric buses from Volvo and VDL, complemented by 20 hydrogen fuel cell electric buses from Solaris.
Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
Commenting on the expansion, Antoine Grange, CEO Europe of Transdev Group, said the company’s growth reflects strong confidence from public authorities in Transdev’s ability to deliver reliable, sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions.
Meanwhile, Manu Lageirse, CEO of Transdev Nederland, highlighted the simultaneous launch of the Utrecht Binnen and HWGO networks as a strong signal of the organisation’s readiness and commitment, with a focus on reliability, passenger experience and clean mobility from day one.
With these new contracts and network launches, Transdev continues to play a central role in shaping the future of low-emission public transport in the Netherlands, supporting both urban and regional communities with modern, accessible mobility services.
