Qatar Airways Restores Global Network to 85% Capacity and Appoints New C-Suite Executives
The global aviation industry is witnessing a powerful resurgence, and leading the charge is Qatar Airways Group. The award-winning airline has officially restored its global network to 85% of its pre-crisis capacity, marking a major milestone in its post-disruption recovery.
This achievement coincides with the launch of the airline’s highly anticipated summer 2026 schedule. Travelers can now benefit from more than 140 daily departures from Hamad International Airport in Doha, connecting passengers to over 160 destinations worldwide. The milestone successfully meets a strategic target the Group set earlier this year following temporary regional disruptions.
To sustain this momentum and navigate its next phase of international expansion, Qatar Airways has announced a structural leadership update, introducing two new executive positions aimed at strengthening operations and elevating the passenger experience.
New Leadership Roles to Drive Operational Excellence
Both newly created executive roles will report directly to Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Hamad Al-Khater.
- Abdulla Ali Appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO): Moving up from his current role as Senior Vice President of Ground Services, Ali will now oversee the Group’s entire operational footprint. His core mandate includes improving accountability, boosting overall performance, and maintaining the airline’s industry-leading safety standards.
- Calum Laming Appointed as Chief Customer Officer (CCO): Bringing a wealth of premium aviation experience, Laming joins Qatar Airways from British Airways, where he previously served as CCO. With a proven track record in customer leadership at Etihad Airways and Air New Zealand, Laming will spearhead the airline’s global customer experience strategy across all touchpoints.
Both Abdulla Ali and Calum Laming are scheduled to officially assume their new executive roles on November 1, 2026.
Qatar Airways’ Three Strategic Priorities for 2026 and Beyond
According to the Group, this corporate restructuring is designed to accelerate the delivery of three core strategic pillars:
- Enhancing the Passenger Experience: Delivering seamless end-to-end journeys for leisure and business travelers.
- Fleet and Network Expansion: Growing the passenger and cargo network utilizing a modern fleet, highlighted by the rollout of the highly anticipated next-generation Qsuite.
- Investing in Talent: Prioritizing employee development and mentoring the next generation of aviation leaders.
Commenting on the strategic appointments, Group CEO Hamad Al-Khater stated that the new leadership structure will enable the airline to move faster, strengthen its operational excellence, and ensure that customers remain at the absolute center of every decision.
As the airline prepares for a busy travel season, these executive appointments signal a robust future for Qatar Airways as it continues to set benchmarks in the global aviation sector.
