China Eastern, Lufthansa and LATAM expand global networks with new long-haul services

Several major airlines have announced new long-haul routes as part of their network expansions for the 2026 travel season. The latest announcements include services linking Europe, Asia, Australia and South America, reflecting strong international travel demand.
Below are key airline network updates reported during the week ending March 6.
China Eastern Adds Routes to Europe and Australia
China Eastern Airlines will expand its long-haul network with multiple new international services scheduled for 2026.
The airline plans to launch three weekly flights between Shanghai and Stockholm beginning June 22, according to Swedavia Airports.
Additional seasonal and new routes include:
- Shanghai – Adelaide, Australia: operating between June 20 and August 2
- Xi’an – Vienna, Austria: launching April 20
The new services are expected to strengthen air connectivity between China, Europe and Australia during the peak summer travel period.
Lufthansa Relaunches Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur Service
Lufthansa has confirmed it will relaunch year-round nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur starting October 25, 2026.
The route was previously discontinued in 2016 but is now returning as part of Lufthansa’s long-haul network rebuild.
Key details include:
- Frequency: Five flights per week
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
- Capacity: 287 seats across three cabins
The aircraft will feature Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin product, designed to enhance premium passenger experience.
LATAM Launches Amsterdam–São Paulo Connection
LATAM Airlines will introduce a new long-haul route linking Europe and South America.
Starting March 30, the airline will operate flights between Amsterdam and São Paulo four times weekly. From April 18, the service will increase to six flights per week.
The route will also be operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with:
- 30 business-class seats
- 270 economy seats
The new service strengthens travel links between the Netherlands and Brazil, one of LATAM’s key long-haul markets.
