Viking has launViking Yidun Mandarin-Language Voyage Begins Historic Transcontinental Journey

Viking has launched its first Viking Yidun Mandarin-language voyage, creating a new experience for travelers from Greater China and Southeast Asia. The 60-day journey departed Shanghai on June 5 and will reach Barcelona in August. This milestone highlights Viking’s expanding focus on international cruise markets.

First Mandarin-language voyage across continents

The sold-out repositioning cruise marks a major step for Viking. During the journey, the Yidun will sail the “Afro-Euro-Asian Discovery Journey” and visit 27 destinations across 16 countries.

The itinerary covers important ports across Asia, Africa, and Europe. For example, guests will explore Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles, the Maldives, Namibia, Morocco, and other destinations.

Additionally, the ship will travel around the Cape of Good Hope before completing the voyage in Barcelona.

Mandarin-focused guest experience onboard

Viking has introduced Mandarin-language services throughout the voyage to support travelers from Asian markets. As a result, almost all crew members onboard can communicate in Mandarin or are Chinese.

Guests can also enjoy Mandarin-guided shore excursions included in the cruise fare. Furthermore, airport transfers, Wi-Fi, and gratuities form part of the cruise package.

The Yidun will continue offering Mandarin-language Mediterranean cruises from autumn 2026 through spring 2027.

Premium facilities onboard Viking Yidun

The 930-guest ship offers eight dining venues. Meanwhile, guests can enjoy a main dining room with a daily dim sum trolley, afternoon tea at the Wintergarden, and Italian cuisine at Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant.

In addition, private dining options are available at The Chef’s Table.

The Viking Yidun operates under the Norwegian flag. Unlike many cruise ships, it does not include a casino or triple and quad cabins. The ship also does not allow children under eight years old.

Expanding cruise opportunities for Asian travelers

With its first Viking Yidun Mandarin-language voyage, Viking strengthens its presence among Asian cruise travelers. Overall, the new itinerary combines long-distance exploration, cultural experiences, and language-focused services for a more personalized journey.
