Sydney, Australia – 28 January 2026 – Emirates and Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) have signed a landmark agreement to open Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a 40-key all-inclusive luxury lodge set within a 7,000-acre conservation reserve in Australia’s Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

Scheduled to open in mid-2026, the property will mark the global debut of The Ritz-Carlton Lodge brand and represents a major milestone for regional tourism in New South Wales (NSW). Purpose-built as a sanctuary in nature, the lodge will combine refined luxury, immersive guest experiences, and strong environmental stewardship.

Key Highlights

First Ritz-Carlton Lodge Worldwide

  • Emirates Wolgan Valley will be the first Ritz-Carlton Lodge globally, setting a new benchmark for luxury, nature-based travel.
  • Designed to reflect its surroundings while occupying less than 2% of the protected reserve, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Significant Long-Term Investment by Emirates

  • Emirates has invested AU$150 million since 2006 to develop and conserve the Wolgan Valley site.
  • A further AU$50 million is being invested to transform the resort in partnership with Marriott International.
  • Conservation efforts include the restoration of an 1832 homestead and the planting of over one million native trees.

Boost to Regional Economy and Employment

  • The lodge is expected to create nearly 150 local jobs upon reopening.
  • Increased opportunities for local suppliers, including fresh produce and regional goods, will support the local economy.

Immersive Access and Experiences

  • Guests will arrive via four-wheel-drive journeys along the Donkey Steps or by helicopter, adding to the exclusive wilderness experience.
  • Signature offerings include a guided wilderness sleep-out experience, outdoor dining under star-filled skies, and expert-led nature explorations.

Luxury Meets Conservation

  • The lodge will feature 40 private lodges, each with private pools and bespoke amenities.
  • Facilities include a signature restaurant, wine room, lounge bar, equestrian stables, outdoor pool, tennis courts, fitness centre, and The Ritz-Carlton Spa.
  • A dedicated naturalist hub, led by a resident expert, will curate conservation-focused guest experiences.

Strong Tourism Demand

  • According to Tourism Research Australia, regional NSW welcomed 15.5 million domestic visitors in the quarter to September 2025, generating AU$5.9 billion in visitor spend.
  • International visitors contributed an additional 727,300 arrivals and AU$1.2 billion in spending, underscoring the region’s growing global appeal.

Leadership Perspectives

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the lodge represents a continuation of Emirates’ deep commitment to Australia, noting its role as both a luxury destination and a catalyst for regional economic growth.

Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific (excluding China) at Marriott International, described the project as a milestone collaboration, positioning the lodge as a major attraction for Marriott Bonvoy’s 260 million members worldwide, particularly those seeking immersive, nature-led luxury experiences.

Conclusion

Blending legendary Ritz-Carlton service, Emirates’ long-standing conservation ethos, and the natural beauty of the UNESCO-listed Greater Blue Mountains, Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge is poised to redefine luxury eco-tourism in Australia while strengthening NSW’s position as a premier global travel destination.
