Wilderness has announced a major global accolade for DumaTau, its flagship safari camp in Botswana’s pristine Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, which has been ranked No. 2 in the Best Resorts in the World and named Best Resort in the Rest of Africa in the 2025 US Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
The prestigious annual awards celebrate the world’s most exceptional travel experiences, as voted by Condé Nast Traveler’s global readership. In the United States alone, more than 750,000 readers participated in the survey, while nearly 200,000 readers contributed to the UK edition, sharing firsthand travel insights and experiences.
“Being named among the world’s best is such a meaningful recognition of the passion, care, and purpose our team brings to everything we do,” said Kate MacWilliam, Wilderness Group Head of Marketing. “It’s a celebration of timeless experiences, heartfelt hospitality, and the spirit of Wilderness that continues to thrive in Botswana’s wild spaces. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who voted for us, affirming our mission to make a lasting, positive impact for wildlife, wild spaces, and local communities.”
A Benchmark for Luxury Safari Experiences
Meaning “roar of the lion” in Setswana, DumaTau has become synonymous with refined, conservation-led luxury in one of southern Africa’s most wildlife-rich regions. Set along the Linyanti River with 45 kilometres of river frontage, the camp lies between two vital elephant migration corridors, offering guests extraordinary close-up wildlife encounters and exclusive safari experiences.
Since opening in 1997, the DumaTau team has been committed to protecting these transboundary wildlife corridors, allowing animals to move freely between Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—a cornerstone of Wilderness’s long-term conservation strategy.
Reimagined for the Future
DumaTau was comprehensively rebuilt in 2021, alongside its sister property Little DumaTau, blending contemporary elegance with a deep sense of place and purpose. The lagoon-side setting frequently draws large elephant herds and diverse wildlife, forming the backdrop for a highly intimate safari experience.
DumaTau features seven tented guest suites and one family suite, while Little DumaTau offers just four spacious suites, ensuring privacy, exclusivity, and a strong connection to the surrounding wilderness.
Multiple Wilderness Camps Recognised Globally
DumaTau’s success was part of a broader showing for Wilderness in the 2025 awards. In the US Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, additional Wilderness properties were also ranked among the world’s best:
- Wilderness Vumbura Plains – ranked 3
- Wilderness Mombo & Little Mombo – ranked 7
- Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp – ranked 27
In the UK edition, Wilderness camps featured prominently in the “Resorts – Rest of Africa” category:
- Wilderness Mombo & Little Mombo – ranked 18
- Wilderness Bisate – ranked 21
- Wilderness Chitabe – ranked 22
“Each of these remarkable camps reflects the heart of Wilderness – where exceptional hospitality meets a profound sense of purpose,” MacWilliam added. “We are immensely proud to partner with Condé Nast Traveler in this vital mission, and together, we will continue to explore new horizons in hospitality and conservation.”
With Wilderness DumaTau voted among Condé Nast Traveler World’s Best Resorts, the camp further cements its status as one of the world’s most inspiring luxury safari destinations—where conservation, community, and unforgettable experiences come together in the heart of Africa’s wild spaces.
